Vale of Clyde welcome leaders City
It’s bottom versus top this weekend as Vale of Clyde have the unenviable task of facing league leaders Glasgow City at Vale of Clyde Juniors.
Promoted from the runners-up spot in the First Division last season, Clyde boss Davie Mark knows the difficulties his side will face in surviving in the Premier this year. He said “It is tough for us in this League, but it is where we want to be. Facing City is obviously not going to be easy, but it is the sort of game our younger players love and the ones they want to be involved with.
“We started well last weekend when we took the lead against Hibs in the Cup, so it would be great to do that again against City. We were missing crucial players against Hibs and although we will have a few back, I am still without our Captain Bridie MacDonald who is suspended, as well as the experienced Lyndsay Hart. Two of our best young talents – Lisa Hendry and Louise Thompson are also unavailable, so although it won’t be our full strength squad, we will nonetheless be putting in 100%. Things could come down to goal difference at the end of the season to see who stays up, so it is important we contain City as much as we can.”
Vale of Clyde against City, is not the only Glasgow derby taking place this Sunday as Celtic make the short trip to Glasgow Green to take on Queens Park. With Queens having four players in the Scotland Under 19’s and Celtic having three, both sides are full of young talented players and this will most definitely be a tight match.
Sunday’s round up: Queens Park v Celtic, Vale of Clyde v Glasgow City, Aberdeen v Edinburgh, Raith Rovers v Hibernian, Forfar Farmington v Kilmarnock
