Under 15's stalemate with Drumchapel

Glasgow City Under 15’s came back twice to secure a well earned 2-2 draw with Drumchapel away from home yesterday.

After suffering two recent defeats, the City girls were highly motivated to give a good performance and it showed right throughout the whole match. Two City Under 13’s were also brought into the squad for this game, to give them a taste of what to expect in a few months time when they move into the age group for the new season.

Drumchapel took the lead when the referee waved play on following a suspect hand ball in a crowded penalty box, which the home side capitalised on. However, the young City side soon fought back, combining some excellent passing moves and Alexandra Wells soon got her side back on level terms running on to a through ball and finishing well.

The home side then went on the attack and a shot from the edge of the box hit a City player and the cruel deflection went into the back of the net past the despairing Sophie Campbell in the City goals.

Despite being a goal behind yet again, City continued to create chances and were extremely unlucky not to get back on level terms when a great strike from Amber Clark looked to be heading into the top corner until the Drumchapel keeper got a hand to it for an excellent save.

Half time 2-1

At half time, coach Stuart Glover made a number of changes, brining on Under 13’s Lauren Simmons and Sarah Tracey for a taste of 11-aside football and both did very well. A pass from Abigail Park saw Simmons take the ball into the 6 yard box. The keeper saved well from Simmons but could not hold the shot, allowing Wells to finish from close range for her second of the match.

Full time 2-2

Coach, Stuart Glover commented on the match. He said, “I was really happy with the girls’ performance today. Decisions such as the handball unfortunately don’t always go your way and nothing could be done about the deflection. But I was delighted with the way the girls were passing and moving the ball, using the full pitch and not one person was quiet today. Every player was calling for the ball, giving instructions and helping their team mates and I couldn’t have asked for more.”
