Twiga Stars: Tanzania's Soccer Sisters, supported by Glasgow City
Africa in Motion (AiM) Film Festival in partnership with the Glasgow City FC, Scotland’s top women’s football club, are holding a screening of Twiga Stars: Tanzania's Soccer Sisters, 3pm, 5 July, in the Glasgow Film Theatre.
This screening forms part of Africa in Motion’s touring film festival, ‘Sports Stories from around the African Commonwealth’, with film screenings and events taking place across Scotland in the lead up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This inspiring documentary follows a year in the life of the Twiga Stars, Tanzania's national women's football team, as they come together for their biggest competition ever. Through the gruel of intensive practices, the heartbreak of team cuts, and the tragedies of life that strike along the way, the girls support each other and work together to achieve what no one could have imagined. We cheer on the Twiga Stars as they fight together to prove 'wanawake wanaweza’, meaning 'women are capable’.
Members of Glasgow City’s management team will be in attendance to take part in a discussion about women in football after the screening, which will be hosted by Glasgow City ex player and academic Dr Katharina Lindner.
Festival Project Manager, Justine Atkinson, says: ‘’We are extremely excited to have partnered with Glasgow City FC and believe that this screening will contribute to a progressive discussion of women and football in Africa and Scotland’.
