Tom Johnstone sponsors Nicky Docherty
We are thrilled to announce that Glasgow City fan Tom Johnstone has become the latest person to sign up to sponsor a City player for 2014.
Despite living in Lincoln, Tom can be seen at many Glasgow City matches, making the trek up north and enquired recently about sponsoring our international left back Nicky Docherty.
Commenting on his decision to sponsor Nicky, Tom said, “I am a retired civil servant who was involved in coaching and managing youth football teams for many years in Scotland and Lincoln and have only had my interest in women's football ignited since the introduction of the FAWSL and the Lincoln Ladies. I travelled all over England with the team but became disappointed in the rebranding to Notts County.
“I was drawn to Glasgow City after reading of their exploits in the Women's Champion's League and decided to travel to Glasgow to take in a match. I was amazed at the friendliness of the club and the way the players interacted with the supporters after the game. I have since attended many matches and I have been very impressed by the willingness of everyone at the club to ensure it remains supporter friendly.
“I had wondered how I could become more involved and the opportunity to sponsor a player appealed to me. Having met and shared a coffee with Mr and Mrs Docherty at the ScottishCup Final I thought who better to sponsor than their daughter Nicola and I am delighted to offer my support for the 2014 season.”
