Scottish Sportswoman of the Year

" I am delighted to announce that our Captain of seven years, Laura Montgomery, has been nominated for Scottish Sportswoman of the Year in the 2008 Evening Times awards.

"As co-founder of Glasgow City ten years ago, Laura has been the main driving force behind the success and ambition of the club. In the past seven years, Glasgow City have finished in the top two of the Scottish Women's Premier League, a feat no other Scottish side comes close to matching.

"As current Premier League Champions, Laura led Glasgow City into the UEFA Women's Cup, the female equivalent of the Champions League, where of course, City became the first Scottish side ever to reach the heights of the last sixteen, despite our amateur status.

"In the past few months, Glasgow City have also lifted the Scottish Premier League Cup and the prestigious Glasgow Team of the Year Award.

"Within Glasgow City itself, Laura's role is more than just Captain. She is in charge of sponsorship, media, accounts and fully writes and maintains our website, none of which most people or indeed the awards panel are aware of.

"Laura is up against some very impressive opposition for the award, but her recognition highlights her commitment and drive to helping Glasgow City to be one of Europe's top sides.

"We consider our club extremely fortunate to have Laura as a player and as a club representative."
