Reserves knocked out of Cup
Glasgow City Reserves were knocked out of the SWF League Cup 4-2 by Motherwell last Sunday.
City scored through Fiona Woods with a well taken free kick, with Louise Thompson netting her team’s second from the penalty spot.
Conditions were difficult with a very poor pitch making a passing game all but impossible. City dominated possession but with key players missing through injury and suspension, they struggled with no real fire power to convert possession into goals.
Commenting on the match, Reserves Boss Fiona Baker said, “We had a lot of the ball and I felt Motherwell never threatened us in open play. Disappointingly our own mistakes gifted them their chances, which to be fair to Motherwell they converted well. Our lack of match practice most definitely showed, but this new team will take some time to gel and I am very optimistic about the future. We now have one full competitive match under our belts and the basic mistakes we made can be worked on in the training ground to eradicate them in future. All of our players showed great promise and we had excellent possession at times, which is really encouraging. With our difficulties in numbers we were really down to the bare bones and I am confident when we get our full squad available, we will be capable of a very good performance.”
