Reserves disappointed with Hutchie game

Glasgow City Reserves went down 6-0 yesterday to Hutchison Vale, their heaviest ever defeat.

The away tie earlier on in the season where City came away with 5-3 victory seemed like a distant memory as Vale went on the offensive right from the kick off. A simple ball over the top in the first few minutes caught out City’s flat back four to let the Vale attackers in to open the scoring.

Soon after, Vale were pressing into the City penalty area winning a corner in the process. The resulting kick came off the head of City’s Lesley Palmer and the home side were now 2-0 down inside the first 6 minutes.

The Reserves managed to stem the tide until the 22nd minute when the visitors broke from midfield and a crossed ball in behind the City defence to set up an easy finish from 6 yards. City’s performance seemed to be error strewn and poor communication led to the fourth goal just before the end of the half, another own goal.

City rallied for the start of the second half managing to cut out some of the mistakes that had cost them dear in the first period. Keeping possession a lot better they then started to threaten the Hutchison Vale goal and came close on a couple of occasions with some good efforts. It was the visitors though who continued the scoring. A shot from inside the area was spilled by Steph Hardie in the City nets and a Vale attacker was able to stroke home the loose ball. In the last few minutes Vale got a sixth for the day from a well worked free kick.

Reserves manager Fiona Barker commenting after the match expressed her disappointment at closing this term with such a heavy loss. “Looking back over the second half of the season we were playing well in games and getting no end reward for our efforts. In the last couple of matches the girls just seemed tired and basic errors were getting made all over the park. Error's cost you goals and goals cost you games, it’s that simple.

“It is time for a long awaited break for me and the girls; it will give me the opportunity to reflect back on the season and look to start planning again for next season.

“From all the Reserve team congratulations to everyone associated with the 1st team on winning their 4th league title in a row.”
