Reid Furniture in historic sponsorship
Live on the Real Radio last night, Glasgow City were presented with a cheque from Reid Furniture for an incredible £7,500, making it the biggest single cash donation to any women’s football team in Scotland.
With the City first team invited as special guests of the Real Radio football phone-in, the girls were hoping to continue their historic European efforts publicity drive made possible by Real Radio.
However, half way through the show, presenter Ewen Cameron surprised the whole team when he introduced Reid Furniture’s Head of Marketing Ann Gibb. Ann then stunned the entire studio when she presented Glasgow City with a cheque for £7,500, which now enables City to go and compete in the last sixteen of the UEFA Women’s Cup.
City Captain Laura Montgomery spoke on behalf of the whole of Glasgow City when she thanked Ann and Reid Furniture for their extraordinary act of generosity. She said, “This is easily the largest ever single cash sponsorship to any women’s side in Scotland. I cannot believe the kindest and generosity of Reid Furniture. We are all in shock. Real Radio has been a tremendous help in highlighting our success and of course our financial difficulties in being able to compete at the elite level our standards deserve. We leave a week on Tuesday for Oslo and it is fantastic that the whole team can now finally start to concentrate on what got us this far – football. It is very frustrating that we have had to focus more on finances than training and preparation, but that is not the case any more thanks to the number of sponsors we have received already and of course Reid Furniture, for their outstanding act of generosity.”
To make the evening even more special the girls were also presented with a cheque from Real Radio themselves for £1000.
