Raith Rovers v Glasgow City

Glasgow City returned from Glenrothes today happy with their 7-0 defeat of Raith Rovers in the  Premier League Cup.

One of only two fixtures which managed to evade the bad weather, City are now in the Quarter Final draw along with Hibernian who defeated last year’s champions Edinburgh 7-2.

City opened the scoring through striker Ruesha Littlejohn. The Under 19 internationalist scored the best goal of the game collecting the ball at the half way line before gliding past four Raith defenders and placing a perfect shot into the top corner of Rover’s net.

Next on the score sheet was Under 19 team mate and forward Jane Ross, who went on to score a deserved hat-trick. Ross got one goal in the first half and two in the second, putting in an all round good performance on the right hand side of City’s three pronged attack.

Also amongst the goals was attacking midfielder Suzanne Lappin who managed a brace. Lappin’s first effort was a delightful chip over the goalkeeper following an excellent pass from Leanne Ross, and her second was a well placed header from a cross from full back Leeanne Campbell.

Not to be outdone, last year’s top goalscorer Katharina Linder also made the scoresheet with a strike in the first half. Similar to Lappin’s goal, Lindner chipped the keeper from yet another through ball from Leanne Ross, ensuring a pleasing day for Manager Peter Caulfield.

He said “It is always very difficult to play Raith Rovers away from home and we have had a few difficult matches here in the past. However, to be 5-0 up at half time for the second week in a row, I was delighted. My only concern is that we seem to take our foot off the pedal in the second half once again. We need to be more ruthless, but overall, I cannot criticise my team after yet another excellent performance against a difficult side. We are now in the draw for the quarter finals of the League Cup, the one trophy we have never managed to win, and look forward to seeing who we face in the next round.”
