Match report - Under 15's v Kilwinning

Glasgow City Under 15’s faced a very physical and strong Kilwinning side with some talented individual players on Saturday, going down 3-1 to the Ayrshire outfit.

The first half was a very tight affair with possession evenly split amongst the two teams, until Kilwinning produced a clever move near the end of the half to put themselves in the lead.

Despite going behind, the City girls kept up their own tempo pushing Kilwinning back into their half and were unlucky not to equalise before the end of the first period.

The second half was in the hand of the visitors as they retained possession well and took their chances to extend their lead to 3-0 on the 70 minute mark.

With the game now arguably from their grasp, credit to the young City side as they continued to push back at Kilwinning to give themselves a lifeline in the match. They finally got the reward their efforts matched when Amber Clark delivered an excellent corner into the box which was met by Captain Beth MacLellan and she powered her header cleanly into the back of the net. Now back in the match, City continued to push forward creating chances, but were unable to add to their tally before the final whistle.

Full time 1-3.

Under 15 Coach Sandy Cunningham commented on the game. He said, “The match itself was hard fought and it was good to see the girls working hard together. It was probably a fair score line as Kilwinning were very strong at the start of the second half, but if our girls can maintain and improve on their current attitude, giving it all they have, hopefullythe results will begin to change. We need to keep focused and put as much effort as we can into our remaining matches.”
