Lucky 13 for sharp City
Glasgow City continued their impressive start to the season with a fantastic 13-2 win over Queens Park today at Glasgow Green.
The Spiders have started the season well and would have been looking to be a tough test for their rival Glasgow neighbours. City, however, were in far from charitable mood and came at Queens right from the first whistle.
With Leanne Ross playing through the middle in a striking role for the first time this season, and Leanne Crichton taking Ross’s slot in the centre of the park, City troubled Queens with their swift passing and movement. First on the score sheet was Katharina Lindner, but she was soon followed by a number of her team mates as City went into a 6-0 lead. The Spiders managed to pull a couple of goals back through good individual efforts from Stephanie Handley, but still went in at half time trailing 7-2.
In the second half the goals just kept coming as City started to show a ruthless streak for the first time in many seasons. Another six goals followed as City ran out 13-2 winners. On target were Leanne Ross (5), Katharina Lindner (2), Suzanne Lappin (2), Megan Sneddon (2), Jane Ross (1) and Emma Fernon (1).
Understandably coach Kate Cooper was delighted with her team’s efforts. She said, “We have started pretty well in most matches this season, but have been very guilty of taking our foot off the pedal in the second half with the game already won. Today, I am delighted to say, we played to our potential for 90 minutes and I am obviously very pleased. We played some outstanding football today and actually could have scored quite a few more. We still have areas we need to improve, but overall the girls did exceptionally well today.
