Lisa Evans heads to Turbine Potsdam

Glasgow City striker Lisa Evans heads out to German giants Turbine Potsdam today after being invited over for a trial after impressing against the German Champions in the UEFA Women's Champions League last 16 match last November.

Fully professional side Potsdam and recognised as one of the best teams in the world and City are delighted that Evans has this opportunity, highlighting that as a City player, competing against the very best can put you in the shop window for the chance of a lifetime.

Evans commented, “I don’t want to be premature as the trial may not lead to any move away from GCFC, however, since I came to City over 4 years ago, I have been privileged to play with, in my opinion, the best players in Scotland.

“Glasgow City have enjoyed outstanding success both domestically and in Europe and this provides a platform for all players, as does playing for your country.

“The quality of the coaching, the intensity of the training and the highly professional approach of the club has definitely instilled a discipline in all players. The demands are high, but the rewards are there for all to see. City are, as our Club Manager Laura has quoted, ' a team of unpaid professionals' who will continue to compete with the best in Europe.”

City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “This is a reward for everyone at the club, because without Lisa's team mates pushing her in training, day in and day out she would not have reached the level required to play with the elite.

“There is no doubt Lisa is a very talented young player and with the right guidance hopefully she can fulfil her potential. One of my best friends in life is Lisa's father and our friendship was the reason why she came to City as a 15 year old, therefore this is personal for me too. I have been asked what I would like to see happen? My answer for Lisa and every single player at City is the same, I take great delight in watching her develop into the kind of player I knew she could be. I think the thing to take from this is that playing for City at the highest level and that's what the Champions League is in my opinion, has attracted interest, I cannot think of another player from Scotland who has ever been offered this kind of opportunity. It takes great bravery and courage to sign for Glasgow City and compete with some of the best players in the country and let me tell you there are not many who have these attributes. Lisa's bravery and courage will ensure she will not let herself down.”
