Leanne Ross hits 100

As well as going top of the table on Sunday, Glasgow City’s Leanne Ross had another reason to celebrate, as she started her 100th game for the club.

Signed almost four years ago, Leanne has been a mainstay in the City team and has gone on to win four Premier League titles, two Premier League Cups and a Scottish Cup. She has also been part of City’s successful exploits in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, most notably in 2008, when City became the first Scottish team ever to reach the last sixteen.

An extremely adaptable player, Leanne has filled a number of positions for City, the majority of which have been in midfield. She can however, very successfully also play a more advanced role, highlighted brilliantly last year when she scored an amazing 54 goals in all competitions, a new club record. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that 42 of those goals came in the Premier League – again a new club record.

As well as starring for City, Leanne has become a regular in the Scotland squad over the last few years, and has amassed well over 50 caps for her country.

Commenting on her achievement she said, “I am really pleased to have achieved my 100th start for the club and proud of what we as a team have achieved during this time both in domestic and European competitions. I have improved so much as a player during my time at Glasgow City and I have loved every minute of it, even although it has been hard work! Fingers crossed there will be many more appearances to come and that I can contribute to the future success of the team and club as a whole.”

Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black also paid tribute to Leanne. He said, “I am delighted to be writing this piece for Leanne. Having worked with Leanne for a few years now I am not surprised that she has attained a hundred starts in such a short period of time, I think this shows a remarkable level of consistency and attitude. There is no doubt that Leanne's attitude to training allows her to stay injury free, she rarely misses training, maintains her strength and conditioning programme and this clearly allows her to play in a very energetic manner. The fact that she has played well in several positions breaking records as she goes shows an intelligent individual who adapts tactically to what is required in each role. Leanne is a shining example of how dedication and hard work can bring great rewards and I am sure she will continue to add to her impressive stats over the coming seasons.”

Leanne is sponsored by MacDonald and Company, Solicitors and Estate Agents, based at Anniesland Cross in Glasgow and Glasgow City FC would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support of Leanne for the season ahead.
