Leanne breaks City record

Glasgow City and Scotland star, Leanne Ross, not only notched five goals in Sunday’s demolition of Kilmarnock, she also broke two club records in the process.

Leanne has now scored 36 League goals this season, a new club record. The previous landmark was held by former City player Suzanne Grant for season 2004/05, but Leanne has already dwarfed this achievement and with four league games remaining, her current form suggests she may well add further goals to this incredible tally.

As well as her League form, Leanne has found the net a further 12 times this season between the League Cup, Scottish Cup and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, giving her a season total, so far of 48 goals – yet another club record.

Commenting on her achievement, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki said, “This is the first season we have played Leanne higher up the park and the club and Leanne are reaping the rewards from this. She makes fantastic runs and is one of the best finishers at the club, which explains how she has managed to find the net so many times this season. The club as a whole has scored a lot of goals this campaign, but Leanne is far ahead of her team mates, and that is no fluke. If you time your runs well, know where to be at the right time and keep a cool head when shooting, you will score goals, and Leanne has shown how it is done. We still have a number of games left, so I hope she keeps her good form up and continues to score for Glasgow City.”
