Leanne and Megan in Finland

Glasgow City’s Leanne Ross and Megan Sneddon travelled with the Scotland A squad today to take on Finland in a double header this Sunday and the following Wednesday.

These two matches combined with a home friendly against Switzerland mid September will provide the national team with their final chance of preparation before their last UEFA European Championship Qualifier against Slovakia at the end of September, a challenge Glasgow City and Scotland midfielder Megan Sneddon says she and her team mates are looking forward to.

She said, “We don’t feel we have done as well as we could have in our previous qualification matches. Often we have played well and not had the desired result, so the match against Slovakia will give us one last chance to get things right. Our three games against Finland and Switzerland are ideal in the lead up to the Slovakia match. Finland is however, the first match and so is the only game we are concentrating on just now. They are a big, strong and athletic side, but I believe we are more technical so it will be a close match. We will certainly be going out to win both matches against the Finnish.”

Both Megan and Leanne are expected to start for Anna Signeul’s side and City boss Peter Caulfield is hoping his players come back fully fit for the all important trip to Serbia. He said, “Leanne and Megan are in the Scotland squad again, which is a fantastic achievement. It is a great honour to represent your country and we are very proud of their consistent place within the national set up. The two matches against Finland will be tough, so it will be excellent match fitness for them. However, fingers crossed they return fully fit to us, as we travel to Serbia for the UEFA Women’s Cup only a few days after they get back.”

The full Scotland squad is:

Gemma Faye, Jo Hutchison, Jenny Beattie, Ifeomi Dieke, Julie Ferguson, Franki Brown, Suzanne Grant, Julie Fleeting, Rhonda Jones, Shelley Kerr, Frankie Brown, Kim Little, Jo Love, Amy MacDonald, Kirsty McBride, Leanne Ross, Natalie Ross, Megan Sneddon.
