Kilmarnock U'15's 1-3 Glasgow City U'15's

Glasgow City Under 15’s continued their fine end to the season with a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock recently.

Coaches Sandy Cunningham and Stuart Glover mixed up their squad a little for the match including five of the current Under 13 side, who will move up to the older age group next season.

To the management team’s delight, the younger players fitted in well to playing 11-aside, as City got off to a good start opening the scoring after ten minutes. A great run and finish from Abigail Park gave the City girls a huge lift as they pressurized the Kilmarnock back line right from the start.

Louise Foster and Rachel Boyd starting as attacking full backs, put in a good performance allowing the City team to keep up the momentum. It was no surprise therefore when City doubled their advantage five minutes later, with Captain Beth McClellan firing home a free kick.

Half time 0-2.

Just after the restart, Kilmarnock had a free kick of their own and the well worked set piece allowed them to pull a goal back. City however, soon bounced back to restore their two goal cushion, as good interplay between Alex Wells and Abigail Park set up Park to fire home the third City goal. City then made a few changes to allow more of the U13’s to get on to the field of play and enjoy game time on the full size pitch.

Speaking after the game Coach Sandy Cunningham was satisfied with the performance. He said, “Personally I was delighted with the performance of all the Under 13 squad. Lauren Bullock in goal showed that she is more than capable yet again to play 11 aside, Louise Foster and Rachel Boyd were outstanding. Lauren Simmons showed again that she will adapt without any problem even though she was just returning from her sick bed that morning and let’s not forget young Lauren Kelly who made her debut. It was just young Smiley’s luck that she was playing against someone twice her size and yet I don’t think she lost one single tackle. She was totally committed as all the young players were and thanks to all the younger girls for a great display. As to the 15’s themselves I was proud to see them not just play well and ensure a welcome victory with some good flowing football, but they also worked some set pieces from the training ground into the game. Thye all worked hard and deserved this win without question and on a personal note I would like to thank them all for working with the younger players and assisting them through an all round solid performance, well done girls...again, Motherwell this Saturday and Kilmarnock on Sunday, another 6 points up for grabs, let’s keep it up !!!”
