Kayleigh Cameron rejoins City
Glasgow City are delighted to announce that former player Kayleigh Cameron has rejoined the club on a player coach role after a 6 year absence.
Kayleigh was first part of the Glasgow City set-up as a 14 year old and went on to play for three years in the Glasgow City Under 17 side at the time. Her career then took a different turn and over the years she has combined playing with a very impressive coaching pathway.
On the playing front, after City, Kayleigh went on to Captain Arsenal North for five years leading them from the Third Division to the Premier League, when they were eventually taken over by Celtic. She spent her first season at Celtic playing the in reserve side and last season she was unfortunately kept on the sidelines due to injury.
On a coaching level, Kayleigh is by far one of the most experienced female coaches of her age. Currently aged just 23 years old, she began coaching with the SFA seven years ago and has gone on to complete her full qualifications for coaching children’s and youth football. She became the first ever female coach at Celtic FC, employed when she was only 17 years old and has previously won Glasgow Coach of the Year. She has also coached the Glasgow Development Squad’s, comprising Glasgow’s most talented young players at age levels Under 15/17/19. Last season alone, 7 players she has guided won international honours. If all of this was not enough, she has also spent a number of summers coaching in California.
City boss Peter Caulfield highlighted the reason he brought Kayleigh to the club.
He said, "I have known Kayleigh for many years, initially as a player in our Under 17 side when even at that age she showed great ability and real leadership qualities. Unfortunately circumstances at the time meant we had to part company with our youth side when they stepped up into the senior division and they re-formed themselves as Arsenal North. Kayleigh was integral in the development of that club as well as being the team Captain and helped build the youth structure that eventually attracted Celtic to take them over. Despite her age, Kayleigh is a vastly experienced coach and we see her as an integral role in the development of our Glasgow City Girls team. Alongside Head Coach Eddie Wolecki, she will be in charge of the coaching for the Girls side and will combine this with a playing role. To add Kayleigh to our coaching staff is fantastic, so to be able to also add her own playing experience and undoubted ability is a tremendous bonus."
