Kat Lindner joins Glasgow City backroom staff
Glasgow City are thrilled to announce that former player Katharina Lindner has joined the first team coaching staff.
Kat is one of City’s most decorated players and widely regarded as one of the best players ever to have played in Scotland. She joined Glasgow City in the summer of 2005 and since then went on to start 173 games, scoring 128 goals, 12 of which have come in the Champions League, making her City’s top goalscorer of all time in Europe’s most elite club competition.
She now joins a first team coaching set-up currently made up of Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black, Assistant Coach Donald Jennow, Goalkeeping Coaches Bosko Lucic and Peter Screen and Performance Analyst Nick Docherty.
In addition to her first team coaching duties, she will also provide a new role to the club in terms of Academic Support. This unique and additional role will allow her to put her own experiences and career expertise as Dr Kat Lindner, Lecturer at Stirling University, to good use, assisting all Glasgow City players as best as possible as they combine further education with the demands of being an elite athlete.
As a player who has competed at the very highest level both domestically and also on the international stage, her knowledge and skill of being able to balance the demands of both on and off the field, whilst achieving ultimate success in both, is a unique asset to the club and one which we feel will be used regularly.
With a number of Glasgow City players in higher education, including a significant number of players at the SFA Performance Academy at Stirling University, where Kat herself works, this additional role for Kat is one which will be of significant benefit to the majority of Glasgow City young players.
Commenting on Kat’s appointment, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “It has been a long term plan of mine to get as many ex players as possible into the coaching system, therefore when Kat decided to retire, I offered her the opportunity to join our First Team staff. It is important when you have a philosophy that dictates all areas of the club that there are people around who understand it and also what it means to play for this club. She will ensure the philosophy is carried forward and the standards on and off the pitch are adhered to. Of course having played in so many big matches for the club she will also be a reliable confidant for the players. Her support role is also unrivalled and one which as a club we are privileged to be able to offer. I wish her every success in her new role.”
