Jane Ross prepares for Olympics as part of Team GB

Glasgow City forward Jane Ross has very proudly been selected as a stand by player for the GB Women’s Olympic Football Team. In a side controversially dominated by English based players, Glasgow City are thrilled that Jane has been selected for what will be a once in a lifetime experience.

Joining up with the squad on the 9th July, Jane will be with the Olympic team right up until potentially the final on the 9th of August, or earlier if the team get knocked out.  The first Glasgow City player ever to be an Olympian, Jane will get to enjoy everything that many athletes can only dream of as she gets to part of arguably the greatest sporting event in the world.

Jane’s first involvement with the team will be for the official kit out in Team GB adidas apparel, then off to the base of the Olympic village for preparation and training camps before the squad’s first practice match, which will be a friendly against Sweden at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on the 20th July.

The team’s first official Olympic match will be against New Zealand on 25th July. They will then face Cameroon on the 28th July, before the glamour game against Brazil on 31st July. Dependant on the team’s results, the team will hopefully progress to the Quarter Finals which start on the 3rd August.

Commenting on her selection, Jane said, “I am very pleased to be included as one of the four reserve players for the Team GB Olympics squad. To be involved in the Olympic Games in London this year is the opportunity of a lifetime and it is an experience that I am greatly looking forward to.”

After Jane’s Olympic involvement she will jet back to join the Glasgow City team as they prepare to head off to Finland for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
