City Girls overcome Maryhill
Glasgow City Girls took an important step forward regarding the destination of the Second Division title, overcoming closest rivals Maryhill 2-1 at Lochburn Park, last night.
City got off to a decent start, with Emma McMonagle putting the away side in front with a good strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of Maryhill’s net.
The home side pulled a goal back midway through the first half, when a long ball over the top, evaded the City defence with the Maryhill striker finishing well.
City got their noses in front once more, when striker Ruesha Littlejohn finished clinically in the box.
Half time 2-1.
In the second half, City controlled large parts of the game and pressed hard to increase their lead. Despite some good efforts by Littlejohn and Mel Stirling, City were however, unable to add to their lead and the match finished 2-1.
City Girls Coach Kayleigh Cameron commented. “Tonight was a good three points. All of our efforts were focused on leaving here with maximum points, ensuring our excellent League record of having won every game so far, remains in tact. There are still a number of games left, but hopefully our results in the last couple of weeks will give the girls the confidence to build on this and push towards the title.”
