Glasgow City to face Everton and Manchester City
Glasgow City today announced two very exciting pre-season friendlies against top English Super League sides Everton and Manchester City.
The Scottish Champions will take on Everton at home at Petershill Park on Sunday 16th February and will follow that up one week later taking on big spending Manchester City on the 23rd, also at Petershill Park.
Everton, who finished third in the first two years of the Super League and fifth last term are expected to be stern opposition for City as the Scots look to blow away the cobwebs of pre-season with their first match of 2013.
Seven days later, the mighty Manchester City come to town, having already developed a big reputation in the women’s game, despite having yet to kick a ball in the Super League. Immediately licensed by the English FA for Division 1 in the Super League, Manchester City have not disappointed with a number of major signings announced in the close season, including England international stars Steph Houghton, Toni Duggan, Karen Bardsley and Jill Scott.
Commenting on his side’s upcoming pre-season match schedule, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “The pre-season in the SWPL brings many challenges. Therefore it is essential to get top quality opposition to help us get ready for the new season. It is fair to say we have certainly managed to do that. It is vital the players have a runof competitive games that push us to the limit before the international tournament in Cyprus. I hope the supporters will turn out in good numbers to see what promises to be very interesting matches and also take the opportunity to see the clubsnew signings.”
Everton Team Manager Andy Spence said, “We are delighted to be playing Glasgow City as part of our pre-season preparations. To face a team who areregulars in the Champions League will provide uswith exactly the type of test we need ahead of the new season and we look forward to the fixture."
