Glasgow City sign Danni Pagliarulo

Glasgow City are delighted to announce their latest signing with the arrival of defensive midfielder Danni Pagliarulo from Spartans.

A tall, accomplished and technical player, Danni was the mainstay of a strong Spartans side for many seasons winning the League Cup with the Edinburgh side and challenging City for the title. Having spent a short period away from the game due to illness, Danni’s return to top flight football immediately attracted the interest of City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black.

He said, “The signing of Danni came about due to our injury problems at the club. We have suffered numerous long term injuries over the course of the past year or so and sadly we have also inherited a few players who have joined us not 100% fit. With Europe looming I knew we did not have either the depth or quality within the club at the moment to replace the injured players. With this is mind we identified several targets and I immediately contacted the clubs concerned to request permission. I have to say that Spartans showed they are a top club, as despite their own disappointment they dealt with our request in a confidential and highly creditable manner, and for that I would like to personally thank all involved.

“As a club we are well aware that Danni is on the long road back to full recovery and we hope she continues the tremendous progress that she has made to date. She has now had a few training sessions and played a part of training game already and I am convinced she will prove to be a great signing for us over the coming months. Technically she fits into our system and she has shown a great desire to learn very quickly how we play. I would like to wish Danni all the best and hope she can help us remain competitive.”

Danni herself said, “After what’s happened over the past couple of years, I never would have thought i would be playing for Glasgow City and have the chance to play in Europe. It was a very hard decision leaving Spartans, but they were very understanding and told me to follow my dream. I'm excited at the prospect of working under Eddie and feel he is more than capable of getting me back to my best. I'm feeling stronger each day and I know it won’t be long until this happens, as the standard and attitude of the girls is already playing a massive part. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Spartans as a club for everything they have done and thank Eddie and Glasgow City for believing in me and giving me this great opportunity to progress and succeed.”

Danni goes straight into City’s squad for their Premier League match against Forfar on Sunday and of course will be part of the City squad who travel to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on the 9th August.
