Glasgow City seeded 14th for round of 32 Champions League draw

Glasgow City’s recent European exploits have been rewarded with the Scottish Champions now seeded 14th for the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

City topped group 8 in the qualification rounds after defeating Dutch hosts FC Twente, WFC Osijek of Croatia and FC Birkirkara of Malta to progress to the elite round of 32 and knock out Champions League football.

Seeded for the first time in their history, City will now be paired against a team ranked between 17 and 32 when the draw takes place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on the 5th September.

City will be away for the first leg, with the match scheduled by UEFA to be on either 9th or 10th of October. The home leg will be at City’s home ground of Petershill Park and will take place on the evening of the 17th October.

Commenting on his side’s new ranking, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “We were well aware of the seeding opportunity for us before we flew out to Holland. However we were also aware of the difficulty in progressing to the last 32. It’s fair to say this was a tough as it gets and for the second season running we drew the top ranked teams in pots 2 and 3. It speaks volumes for the team that we managed to keep three clean sheets and scored 18 goals in the process. Therefore it is with all clarity that I state that we fully deserve to be seeded this time around. Of course it is no guarantee of progression as there are some teams in the lower half that are more than capable of beating many of the top 16 seeds. But having said that, we are delighted to be in at number 14 and it is to the credit of everyone who has played for this club over the past few seasons.”

Tickets for Glasgow City’s home match for the round of 32, will be available after the draw on the 5th September.
