City prepare to face FC Birkirkara

Glasgow City hope to continue their good start to their Champions League campaign when they take on FC Birkirkara, the Champions of Malta tomorrow.

A comprehensive 7-0 win over Croatian’s Osijek, whom City narrowly defeated 3-2 at this stage of the competition last year, puts City at the top of the group 8 on goal difference with Dutch giants FC Twente sitting in second place after defeating Birkirkara 6-0.

Despite the strong position his side are in, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black is far from happy with the rest afforded to his side, with the Scots forced to play another very important match less than 48 hours later.

He said, “I think it is a disgrace that the players are being asked to play another Champions League match with only one day of recovery in between. But we knew this before we came and have planned for it, but even despite our best plans it just takes 1 or 2 injuries and the squad looks threadbare again. We believe the Maltese team will have to select the same group of players which played yesterday, so it makes it a level playing field for both sides.

“For the game itself we are well aware that Birkirkara proved a difficult obstacle for Twente and there were 60 minutes between Twente’s first and second goal which says it all. I therefore expect a disciplined, organised defensive display and that determines patience, organisation and efficiency from us to ensure we collect the 3 points.”

City take on Birkirkara at 4pm CET tomorrow in Hengelo. 3pm UK time. For live match updates, follow Glasgow CIty on twitter @GlasgowCityFC
