City prepare for second Champions League match

Glasgow City take on Noroc Nimoreni of Moldova tomorrow in their second match in Group 8 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. After the first day of matches, City sit equal top of the group with Finnish Champions PK-35 Vantaa, with the PK-35 having defeated Noroc and City winning over Osijek on match day one.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s match, Glasgow City Assistant Coach Donald Jennow commented.

“Monday’s game presents a massive physical challenge for us with so little rest between tomorrow’s game and a very taxing encounter with Osijek. Yesterday’s win was hard fought and hard work, but we managed to come out with the result we needed and our objective for tomorrow will be no different.

The Group stage is very much about getting points on the board and we must get maximum points against Noroc if we are wanting to progress into the knock-out stages of the competition. Obviously our opponents tomorrow lost heavily 6-0 to PK – 35 Vantaa, but they are the Champions of their country and have earned the right to be in this competition. It is not called the Champions League for nothing.

“We are fortunate that we have a very talented squad of players which allows us to attempt to minimise the physical demands of having to play two games in quick succession and we will go out with the same determination to win as we always do.”

City take on Noroc Nimoreni at the Hakunilan Stadium in Helsinki, with the match kicking off at 4.30pm UK time.
