Glasgow City prepare for the biggest match of the season so far
Scottish Champions Glasgow City face the biggest match of their season so far, when they take on Dutch giants FC Twente in their final match of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification on Tuesday.
City and Twente are neck and neck in Group 8 having both disposed of Croatian Champions Osijek and Birkirkara of Malta in their first two matches, to set up a winner takes all final match. Only the winners of the group are guaranteed progression into the knock out round of the last 32, but despite City sitting top of the group on goal difference, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black will not be fielding a side for a draw.
He said, “We fully expected the group to come down to this tie. We are well aware of the challenge that lies ahead and we know we could very well be playing in a hostile environment with numbers expected to be in the thousands supporting the hosts. However, as a team that is looking to continue to progress on the European stage then it is a challenge that we have to get used to facing on a regular basis. As far as we are aware as a coaching staff, we sense no fear and only respect for our rivals and are convinced that we will perform on the night.”
