Glasgow City prepare for Champions League last 32

Scotland’s top women’s football side, Glasgow City, officially launched their ticket sales ahead of their biggest challenge of the season so far – their last 32 UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Belgian side Standard Liege.

Tickets are now on sale for the home leg of the match, which will be the crucial 2nd leg of the two game tie, the first time City have ever had home advantage for the 2nd leg. It is City’s third successive season in reaching the knock out stages of the Champions League, progressing this year after topping their qualification group in August, after defeating FC Twente (Netherlands), WFC Osijek (Croatia) and FC Birkirkara (Malta).

Tickets for the big match, one of the biggest female sporting occasions of 2013, can be obtained online from www.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk or from Greaves Sports retail outlets in Glasgow’s Gordon Street and Sauchiehall Street. A cash gate entry will also operate on the night of the game, allowing spectators to pay at the turnstiles.

Speaking ahead of the big match, City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black commented, “As a club we are very much looking forward to what will be a very difficult tie. This is the third year in a row we have managed to bring Champions League football to Glasgow. In the past we have been well supported by the public and once again we hope for a healthy attendance as we aim to reach the last 16. Knowing the tie will be concluded on the night should ensure a greater interest and this support could prove to be the extra edge we need.”

Glasgow City star player and Welsh international Captain, Jess Fishlock, on loan from US professional side Seattle Reign said, “Women's football in Scotland has been going from strength to strength, and we have an excellent opportunity to take another step forward in this Champions League tie. During my short time here I've seen how much this competition means to the players, staff and fans so I'll be doing all I can to contribute to a famous night at Petershill on the 17th. Hopefully our amazing supporters will be out in force to help us reach the last 16.”
