City progress into the semi-finals
Glasgow City progressed into the Henson Scottish Cup Semi-Finals with a 4-1 victory over Forfar Farmington at Petershill Park today.
City took the lead on 30 minutes with yet another Christie Murray special as she rattled home a left foot strike from 25 yards.
Leanne Ross put City 2-0 ahead before half time with a delightful chip over the keeper.
Half time 2-0.
Less than a minute after the restart and Julia Scott got her side back in the game, catching City out on the counter attack with a good finish from inside the box.
However, straight from the re-start, Danica Dalziel gave City back their two goal cushion with a right foot low drive from 40 yards into the bottom corner.
With five minutes left, Emma Mitchell put the tie beyond doubt for the home side when she hit a fantastic left foot dipping shot over Lucy Cook in the Forfar goals and into the back of the net to make it 4-1.
Commenting on the match, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “I thought the tempo of the game suited Forfar today and allowed them to get organised to defend our attacks and it has taken some quality from Christie to get us ahead at half time, first with her goal and then setting up Leanne for the second. The second half we really increased the pace of the game and passed quicker, giving Forfar less time to settle, which opened up spaces for us to create numerous chances. We are delighted to be in the semi-final draw and can now focus all of our efforts on the big game on Thursday against Valur in the Champions League.”
