City through to Semi-Finals

Glasgow City progressed through to the Unite Scottish Cup Semi-Finals today after a 3-0 win at home over Dundee United.

Having recently defeated United 7-1 in the League, City went into the match as strong favourites. However, like all Cup competitions, anything can happen and in high winds this was always going to be a difficult match.

City enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first period and it was of no great surprise when they eventually took the lead. Striker Katharina Lindner drove down the channel and then cut the ball back to Jane Ross who in turn lined up Leanne Ross to strike from edge of box into the bottom corner.

Three minutes later, City had goal number two as Jane Ross picked the ball up midway inside the United half, before travelling 20 yards and unleashing a fantastic effort which went in off the underside of bar

In the second half, City created more chances, but surprisingly only added one more goal to their tally. Lindner once again broke down the wing and cut inside with only the keeper to beat. The City forward unselfishly however squared it to Jane Ross who got her second of the day, scoring with ease from a few yards out.

Manager Peter Caulfield, said “The wind was huge factor in the match today making it difficult to really pass the ball well. But I felt we dominated possession in the first half without creating too many chances. Our pressure did of course eventually pay off and all three of our goals were well taken. However, like last Thursday I felt we lacked composure in front of goals on a number of occasions and this is something we really need to improve on.

We are in the semi-finals and this is all that matters and we look forward to the draw tomorrow.”
