City hit Killie for 15

Glasgow City remain at the top of the SWPL after thumping Kilmarnock 15-1 away from home.

City got off to the perfect start finding the back of the net after only three minutes, through in form striker Jane Ross. A good ball from Christie Murray found Ross and with only the keeper to beat, the City and Scotland striker fired into the back of the net.

Disaster struck for City five minutes later as they conceded their first goal of the season, and it was an own goal! A free kick for Killie was sent into the box and a mix up between Lee Alexander in nets and Rachel Corsie, saw the City Captain Corsie, agonisingly head into the back of her own net.

The Scottish Champions however, soon found their way again and restored their advantage only 2 minutes later, with a fantastic strike from Ross once more. Controlling a through ball on to her chest, as the ball dropped Jane Ross fired a volley into the back of the net from just inside the box.

A Kilmarnock hand ball inside the area gave City their third of the afternoon as Leanne Ross scored from the spot. Lisa Evans was then brought down inside the penalty box for yet another penalty and Leanne Ross found the net once more to put her side 4-1 up.

Julie Melrose fired home number five as she hit the back of the net in a crowded penalty area, following a Leanne Ross free kick into the danger area

Just before half time and City were cruising 6-1 ahead as a good ball from Rachel Corsie found Lisa Evans and she stroked the ball home.

Half time 1 – 6.

Despite City’s dominance at the start of the second half, it took almost 15 minutes to find the net again and unsurprisingly, it was Jane Ross once more. A shot from Lisa Evans was well saved by the Killie keeper but she could only parry into the path of Ross, who fired home from 6 yards out.

Three minutes later and Jane Ross scored again with carbon copy of her last as the keeper could only parry another Evans shot into the path of Jane Ross, who scored her fourth of the day and City’s eighth.

Soon after, Jane Ross set up Leanne Ross and the City midfielder hit a great strike from outside the box into the bottom right hand corner.

Leanne Ross then scored the goal of the match. The ball was knocked out of area by the Killie defence, Ross controlled and then hit a 30 yard screamer into bottom corner.

With 15 minutes remaining, it was 11 for City, as Christie Murray put Lisa Evans through on goal and the City forward fired into the back of the net from 10 yards.

Two minutes later and Murray found the net as she shifted the ball on to her left before hitting a good 20 yard strike into the bottom corner.

Leanne Ross scored her fifth of the day and City’s thirteenth as she fired home inside the area. Full back Emma Fernon then got herself in on the scoring as she hit a cracking volley into the net from just inside the area.

Right on full time, Leanne Ross rounded off a great individual scoring performance hitting number fifteen for City. Fernon drove down the right wing and crossed for Leanne Ross and the on fire City midfielder shot under the Killie keeper.

Head Coach Eddie “It was a really professional performance especially considering the early set back when Killie got back on level terms after our own goal. However we quickly turned it around to go in half time 6-1 up. What was really pleasing was the fact that the girls adapted to the very poor conditions of the pitch and the team turned in a really professional performance in the second half.”
