Glasgow City get girls active in Castlemilk

Over the past four weeks, Glasgow City FC Coaching in the Community has been very active throughout the Castlemilk area of Glasgow, coaching football in local primary schools.

In partnership with Glasgow Life and Active Schools, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki and City First Team and Scotland star Emma Fernon, have been coaching schoolgirls every day in after school clubs.

The partnership is a unique combination of getting young girls active and enjoying sport, coached and guided by the perfect role models from within Scotland - the Head Coach and playing stars of the Scottish Champions.

Last week, girls from the local schools that took part in the sessions were welcomed to come along to a tournament to celebrate the success of the coaching and an astonishing 96 girls turned up. A very enjoyable day was had by all, with City scarves, pens, mugs and bags being given away as prizes. More City staff were on hand to assist on the day, including first team player Ruesha Littlejohn.

Glasgow City aim to keep the momentum going in the local area and are running Saturday festivals at Barlia Sports Complex, up to an including Saturday 13th November from 10am – 12pm. Once again, the City Head Coach and First team players will be present.

The Glasgow City Community Coaching scheme is unique within Scotland. It provides the opportunity of high level coaching to be provided to young girls by the players and staff of Glasgow City FC, the most elite club side in Scotland and the nation’s representatives in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

If you would like Glasgow City to come to your school to coach, award prizes or simply for question and answer sessions, please email secretary@glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk

Glasgow City also run coaching in the community at Merrylee Primary, every Friday from 6pm – 7.30pm and have youth teams providing the pathway from community to club football for any girl who wishes to take the step to team competition.
