Glasgow City face tough League Cup tie against Celtic

Glasgow City start the defence of their Premier League Cup crown in  earnest this Sunday when they face Celtic in the quarter finals at Petershill Park, Springburn at 2pm, in what will be the first meeting of two of the nation’s top sides this season.

City won the League Cup as part of their magnificent domestic treble last season, but face difficult early opposition in challengers Celtic who will be desperate to get some silverware over to Glasgow’s East End. The Hoops are a much changed squad this campaign and will be keen to do everything they can to get the win over their Glasgow rivals.

Commenting on the match, Glasgow City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black said, “The quarter final draw has put us together with Celtic in what is undoubtedly the tie of the round. I shouldn't have been surprised given how many times the two clubs have been drawn to face one another. I have to admit I prefer these ties as it means we must play well and work very hard to gain a victory and progress to the semi-finals. Both teams will believe that the winner of this tie will be favourites to win the trophy, but for me it is more about the performance of my team that I am interested in, not who is favourites to win this or that. We have been over this course many times and have seen both sides of a cup tie and we know which one we prefer.”

The match is on Sunday 21st April at Petershill Park, Adamswell Street, Glasgow, G21 4DD. Kick Off 2pm. Entry is £5 adults, £3 concessions and children under 16 years are free.
