Glasgow City face Aberdeen hoping to finish the League in style
Glasgow City welcome Aberdeen to Petershill Park on Sunday hoping to sign off their SWPL title winning season in style with another victory and a good performance ahead of their upcoming Champions League last 16 encounter with Arsenal.
The Scottish Champions are undefeated in all competitions this season and Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black is determined to ensure standards remain despite the title already having been won.
He said, “Sunday brings the curtain down on our League campaign and we hope to finish the season off in style. Despite the title being wrapped up a few weeks ago the players are well aware of the history and tradition of this club. Therefore they will endeavour to set a level of performance that ensures those standards are continually met.
“Our preparation for today’s game has not been the best as most of our internationalists return home on Friday evening. Of course having Scots, Welsh, Republic and Northern Irish players then it’s clear they return with mixed emotions. However that’s the beauty of club football as all these loyalties are laid aside and everyone’s focus is on their club side.
“Even although this is the third meeting of the season between the sides, on Sunday our visitors make their first journey south to play us at Petershill. The previous two ties saw us travel north to record 4 goal victories on both occasions. I have to say that Aberdeen have continued to surprise everyone with their development, but not me. Only ourselves and Hibs from the top six have managed to gain full points from our league clashes with the reds. It is great credit to the staff and players of the club that after their relegation in 2010 they not only made an immediate return but are now regarded as a top six side.”
The match sponsored by Laura McGill, will hopefully also serve as a warm up to City’s biggest challenge of the season so far, when they take on Arsenal away and then at home in the last 16 of the Champions League. Tickets have been selling rapidly for the Arsenal clash and City will be hoping that a few of those fans make it along on Sunday to cheer the team on in the SWPL.
