City defeat Kilmarnock

Glasgow City defeated Kilmarnock 12-0 today at Hurlford Park in Ayrshire.

Within seconds of the opening Jane Ross released Clare Gemmell down the right who beat the full back and crossed for Ross who headed into the far corner only to be denied by an outstanding save from Lauren Grant in the Killie nets.

Minutes later and City went 1-0 up with Gemmell involved again. The City midfielder hit a drive from outside the box which was well saved again by Grant but Christie Murray was on hand to knock in the rebound for her third goal of the season.

City went 2-0 up on ten minutes. Good play from Kat Lindner released Jane Ross and she rounded the keeper to score. Moments later and Rachel Corsie almost made it 3-0 but Monaghan tipped her dipping shot over the bar.

Murray eventually made it 3-0 on 24 minutes. Rachel Corsie released Lisa Evans down the right and she crossed for Leanne Ross. Ross’s initial shot was blocked and the loose ball fell to Murray who beat her marker before coolly slotting home with a well composed finish.

Less than ten minutes later and Danica Dalziel made it 4-0 with a powerful header from an Emma Fernon corner.

Leanne Ross scored number five for City finishing off an excellent team goal. Jane Ross dribbled past three players out wide, crossed to Lisa Evans at the back post who set up Fernon to cross and Leanne Ross finished well using the pace of the pass to direct it into the bottom corner.

Soon after it was 6-0 to the away side with Jane Ross showing great pace to get on the end of a Leanne Ross pass with the Scotland and City striker firing past the outrushing Grant with a fine strike. Lisa Evans then headed over a Jane Ross cross after some good link up between Rachel Corsie and Jane Ross.

It was 7-0 before half time with Leanne Ross diving header to score from a Lisa Evans cross after a fantastic ball from Clare Gemmell.

Half time 0-7

Eight minutes after the restart and Jane Ross got goal number eight, rounding the keeper after a through ball from Evans.

Leanne Ross made it 9-0 with a brilliantly curled finish from inside the box after controlling an Evans cross.

Rachel Corsie got her first of the match and City’s tenth firing home a Fernon corner from eight yards out. Corsie was incredibly unlucky not to get another five minutes later when she hit a shot from outside the box which cannoned off the cross bar.

Jane Ross made it 11-0 finishing well into the far corner of the net as she raced on to a long ball from Eilish McSorley.

With ten minutes remaining Murray was denied her hat-trick as she curled a free kick around the wall only to see it well saved by Grant diving to her left.

Laura Williamson got her first ever goal for the club and City’s twelfth of the match finishing from just outside the six yard box after City took a quick free kick.

Full time 0-12.

Commenting on the match, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “I am really happy with the performance and most importantly I was delighted that we made a really good start, scoring two early goals to take the pressure off on what can be a difficult surface to play on. Overall, we performed really well and the players adjusted to the circumstances brilliantly throughout the match. To get twelve goals and another clean sheet was excellent.”
