Glasgow City defeat Aberdeen to march into the Quarter Finals
Henson Projects Scottish Cup holders Glasgow City progressed through to the Quarter Final draw after a 3-0 win over Aberdeen in the Granite City.
With today’s Cup tie being City’s fourth game in eight days, the City coaching team took the opportunity to try and ensure as much rest as possible for their players. Strikers Jane Ross and Christie Murray did not travel and Danni Pagliarulo was left out due to a slight injury problem picked up during this week’s Champions League campaign.
Only three players started who faced up against PK-35 Vantaa of Finland last Thursday, but despite trying to rest as many as possible, the long travel home on Friday, coupled with the road trip to Aberdeen today, meant the Cup holders struggled to get into their stride in the opening period of the game.

Despite dominating possession, City were unable to create too many clear cut chances as Aberdeen worked hard to limit the visitors. The pressure did however eventually pay off, when returning striker Ruesha Littlejohn scored just before half time with a delightful lob, to mark a debut goal for the side she left just over a year ago to play down south with Liverpool. Although it was the first comeback goal for Littlejohn it marked her 97th goal in total for City in her 73rd start for the club.
Not long after the break, Jennifer Callaghan doubled City’s advantage with a deflected shot and Emma Fernon made it 3-0 on 68 minutes when she finished off a great team move.
Commenting on the win, First Team Assistant Coach, Donald Jennow said, “We started the game very sluggishly, probably contributed to slightly by the fact we are just back from Europe. The second half was a significant improvement. Ruesha Littlejohn coming back in and getting a goal was a definite positive and we achieved our objective of getting into the next round. We now look forward to see who we get in the draw for the Quarter Finals.”
