City Captain looks forward to final

Glasgow City Captain Laura Montgomery has been involved in every City Cup Final since their inception 11 years ago, but knows that this Sunday’s game against Rangers in the Unite Scottish Cup Final could be their biggest yet.

She said, “This has the potential to be our best season ever. Getting to the last sixteen in Europe was arguably our greatest ever feat and so far we have combined this with the Premier League Cup. On Sunday we have the chance to win the Scottish Cup and we are two games away from possibly retaining our Premier League Championship, so it could be a really historic season for Glasgow City. To add to this, our reserve side, Glasgow City Girls, have won their Second Division in their first ever season and also won the Scottish Football League Cup. We could be on course to win every single trophy as a club and that would be phenomenal. However, Rangers will be a very, very tough test.”

Rangers are the re-formation of the old Paisley City side and have had a tremendous season, winning the First Division title and promotion to the Premier League in their first season. Montgomery knows they will be stern opponents.

She said, “Rangers may have been in the First Division this year, but I think all of women’s football knows they are not a Division One side. They attracted a lot of good quality players at the start of the season, with the focus of being a Premier League team within 12 months and they have done very well. They have got to the final on merit and have knocked out some good Premier League teams along with way. We will not be underestimating them at all and will need to be at our very best come the first whistle.”

Sunday’s kick off is at 2.15pm at Forthbank Stadium, Stirling, home to Stirling Albion FC. Tickets are available at the turnstiles. £4 adult, £2 child/concessions.
