Glasgow City are Team of the Year 2011
Glasgow City were awarded with Glasgow Team of the Year last night at the Sports Person of the Year Awards in Glasgow.
Held at the City Chambers and hosted by BBC’s Bryan Burnett in front of Glasgow’s distinguished guests and nominees, the Sports Personality of the Year Awards are put on by Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council to recognise the achievements of its sporting stars for the year just passed.
Amongst notable winners were boxer Ricky Burns who picked up the Leaders Special Award and Imogen Bankier who lifted the coveted Sports Personality of the Year award after having won Silver at the Badminton World Championships last August.
City were the proud winners on the night of the Team of the Year award having won the Scottish Women’s Premier League for the fifth year in a row, finishing the season on maximum points and 15 points ahead of nearest rivals Spartans. City’s achievements on the European stage is where they excelled the most, reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, becoming the only Scottish team ever to do so.
Having won the award in 2008 and shortlisted again last year, Glasgow City are thrilled to be recognised in their home town for their sporting achievements.
