City U'15's weekend double header
Glasgow City U15s had a lot to contend with during last weekend’s double header against Motherwell and Kilmarnock. For Saturday’s clash with Motherwell, City were down to the bare bones and could only field 10 players. As a result, Motherwell made full use of the extra space this created gaining a handsome 5-0 score line by close of play. The Glasgow City girls did however make life difficult for their visitors, working hard all over pitch. The City youngsters even had some good chances to score themselves, but were not able to capitalise on the opportunities. Given the circumstances of the day, City should be pleased with a good effort and performance.
24 hours later and City were back at Glasgow Green for their last home match of the season against Kilmarnock. The team was bolstered with the inclusion of some of the U13s squad and the game as a result was a closer run affair. Indeed City enjoyed some good spells of pressure and were unlucky not to get anything out of the game. Sadly some defensive errors gifted Kilmarnock a couple of goals for a 2-0 win and once again the visitors went away with the points. However, City have the chance to make amends and finish the season on a high when they travel to Falkirk for their final match of the campaign this Saturday.
Speaking after Sunday’s match U15s Manager Sandy Cunningham commented on the two games and the season as a whole. He said, “The season can be summarised briefly. The results show it as a disappointing year, but I am relishing another go. The squad has had a full year of experience now and things were beginning to look encouraging just as the season is coming to a close. I hope this inspires the girls to come back eager to play anyone. Their improvement should hopefully give them the confidence to come back in a positive mood and there is also the addition of the new players who are moving up to this age group. This will only create a stronger squad and the platform is there for improvement. All the girls need to do is work hard at training, continue to enjoy and develop their game and support each other. On a personal note, I would like to thank all the 15's for their effort this year. It may feel like a bitter taste right now, but the girls showed character and resilience to keep going all year. Next season will be very different and if they work hard they will find success and enjoyment.”
