City Under 13's win in Cup
After a good start to the league last week Glasgow City Under 13’s kicked off their League Cup campaign with an 8-0 win over Drumchapel Reds yesterday. On target for the City side was Louise Foster (4) Kayleigh McHugh (2) Laura Park (1) and Lauren Kelly (1).
McHugh opened the scoring early on 4 minutes when she got on the end of a forward ball and turned the defender to slot home from close range. Her opener was followed 2 minutes later by Foster’s first of the day when she hit a good shot from range.
Throughout the first half City passed the ball well from the back creating space and numerous chances which eventually led to another two goals from Foster and one from McHugh.
City made it six before half time, with a well deserved goal for Laura Parks. Parks made an excellent run from the midfield taking on a defender and then placing the ball by the goalkeeper, to give her side an impressive advantage at the half time mark.
Half time 6-0
The second half was a quieter affair on the goal front, however City weren't short on creating chances, with Lauren Simmons in particular, hitting the woodwork on two occasions.
City did however increase their advantage through left footer Lauren Kelly. A good assist from Sarah Tracey led to Kelly having a bit of space 15 yards from goal where she took a touch and hit a thunderous strike into the back of the net giving the Drumchapel goalkeeper no chance. Louise Foster then completed her personal tally and the team scoring for the day on 54 minutes. Despite moving to centre half to replace Lisa Jones, who herself had an excellent match, Foster was able to collect the ball on the half way line and fire it goalwards. The ball missed everyone in the crowded goal mouth to reach the back of the net.
Full time 8-0
Coach Ciara Barnes commented, “Today was another fantastic spirited performance from the girls. They passed the ball brilliantly in the first half in particular and perhaps we should have done this a little more in the second at times, but overall it was a great day with lots of goals and a good performance from every player in the team, so we are very pleased.”
