City win friendly

With the Premier League winter break now in its third week for Glasgow City, the league leaders took a welcome break from the training ground when they travelled to Perth to take on one of the country’s leading Under 17 sides – St Johnstone.

With the difference in maturity and experience, it was clear this was always going to be a relatively one sided affair and City ran out 9-0 winners. However, St Johnstone are a very talented side, extremely well organised and have a number of youth internationalists in their team. They should be proud of their performance.

City’s goals came from the front line, with Ruesha Littlejohn netting a hat-trick and fellow strikers Katharina Lindner and Jane Ross, each getting a brace. Emma Fernon, who was used in both midfield and attack during the game was also on the score sheet and an own goal from the Perth side ensured it was a comfortable day for the visitors.

City boss Peter Caulfield was pleased with his team’s display. He said, “It was good to get a game today and was perhaps the best tonic after our team Christmas night out last night. St Johnstone are a very, very good team and I have no doubt that in a short while we will be seeing a number of their players grace the Premier League. Today was the ideal opportunity to try a few things for the first time and also to work on play we have been focussing on at training.”
