City Head Coach heading for Nyon

Glasgow City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black will fly out to the UEFA Headquarters in Nyon for Tuesday’s draw for the last 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Having qualified on Tuesday for the knock out stages of the competition for the first ever time, the Scottish Champions are now seeded 20th in Europe. The top 16 seeds however, did not need to qualify and City will be drawn against one of these when their name is pulled out of the hat on Tuesday.

Commenting on draw ahead, Black said, “The tournament is quite rightly favoured towards the top seeds and most experienced clubs in the tournament. The big guns so to speak did not need to go through the qualification round, unlike ourselves and it is in UEFA’s interests to ensure the top 16 seeds avoid each other in the last 32. We therefore know we will get one of the favourites for the competition, which will of course make our own task very difficult. However, it gives our girls the chance once more to really test themselves against some of the best in the world. If I am honest, there are of course a number of teams we would like to avoid. The Germans and French are the obvious ones to try and stay clear of and we would prefer not to have to face the might of Arsenal who are number 2 seeds, if we can help it. But, we are under no illusions, that we are now amongst the very best sides in Europe, and we may even be the only completely amateur team still in the competition, so no matter who we get, we will need to be at our very, very best.”
