City Girls edge closer to title
Glasgow City Girls edged closer to the Second Division title with a 4-0 win at home over 7th placed Paisley Saints.
City took the lead on 7 minutes against their visitors today, when Marni Russell fired a brilliant 30 yard free kick into the back of the Saints net.
It was a great start for the home side but they were unable to build on this and convert any more chances in the first 45 minutes.
Half time 1-0.
At the start of the second period, City made two substitutions bringing on Caron Campbell and Ciara Barnes and within five minutes Campbell had her name on the scoresheet. Mel Stirling as always was proving a handful on the right wing and her cross was met well by Campbell, who headed down and into the back of the net. It was Campbell’s seventh league goal of the campaign since joining City in January.
20 minutes later and City were 3-0 up, with Russell grabbing her second of the game with a well timed lob over the Saints keeper. Striker Stirling then put the game well beyond the visitors converting in the box, after the Saints defence had failed to clear.
Girls Coach Kayleigh Cameron was pleased with another three points. She said, “We are getting close, but I must emphasise that we are not there yet. Today was another crucial win and we must keep this incredible run going to ensure the title is ours. Once again, we used the squad well today and every single player has played a pivotal part in this League run.”
