City girls secure another three points
Glasgow City Girls secured three points and their ninth consecutive league win following a 1-0 triumph over Hamilton Accies B in Stonehouse.
In similar circumstances to the First team in Edinburgh, Glasgow City Girls overcame difficult conditions of strong winds and a very hard pitch to ensure they came home with maximum points over a tough Hamilton side.
With City having defeated Hamilton earlier in the season by only one goal, this was always going to a tight affair, with Accies particularly hard to break down.
City did however manage to get the crucial one goal advantage on the half hour mark. A well worked corner between Lisa Evans and Emma Mitchell, saw Mitchell curl in an excellent shot into the top corner of the Hamilton net.
City could and should have added to their lead with Caron Campbell and substitute Shawnie McGeechan both having good opportunities in particular.
However, in the end, the one goal advantage was enough for City to maintain their 100% league record.
Manager Richie Evans was pleased with the points but felt his side should have killed the game off. He said, “Today was very frustrating. The wind made it extremely difficult and to be honest we did not cope well with the conditions. We struggled to get the ball down and play our usual passing game. Hamilton tend not to concede many and defended well. We had good chances in both halves which we never put away and that was disappointing, as with a one nil lead, anything can happen. But three points is all that matters and thankfully we got them.”
