City Girls record another win
Glasgow City Girls recorded another three points today with a 5-1 win over Loudon at Glasgow Green.
City Girls got off to the perfect start with Caron Campbell scoring within the first 30 seconds. Striker Campbell latched on to a diagonal ball from Mel Stirling and the former Loudon player, lobbed the keeper from 20 yards out to score an excellent first goal for City.
Midway through the first half, Loudon equalised and the teams went in 1-1 at half time.
In the second half, City vastly improved their performance with Captain Emma Mitchell the main driving force behind the team. It was of no great surprise when Mitchell herself put City ahead. Another good cross from Mel Stirling had the Loudon defence struggling to clear and Mitchell reacted well to finish from a few yards out.
Mitchell then put the game beyond the visitors and scored her second and City’s third. The Scotland Under 19 midfielder, hit a good strike from the edge of the box, which the Loudon keeper managed to save, but could only divert the ball back into the path of Mitchell, who coolly slotted the ball away.
City’s fourth was scored by substitute Shawnie McGeechan, who hit a well placed 15 yard drive into the bottom corner of the Loudon net. Coming on as a substitute in the second half, McGeechan looked impressive and her goal was just reward for a good display from the bench.
Rounding off a fine second half display for City was Mel Stirling, who notched home her side’s fifth. More often than not the provider, this time Stirling got herself on to theend of a cross from Lisa Evans to ensure all three points went to Glasgow City.
Boss Richie Evans commented on his side’s display.
He said, “In the first half we were very sloppy and not playing anywhere near to the high standards we have set this season. However, I am pleased to say that in the second half we turned things around and started to pass the ball much better and created a number of chances. Three points is excellent and I was pleased with the girls for their second 45 minutes. But, we cannot wait until half time every week before we decide to turn up. It was not like us at all, so hopefully today was a one-off.”
