City Girls put four past Strathclyde

Glasgow City Girls secured another three points tonight with a 4-0 win over Team Strathclyde at Glasgow Green.

City had a poor first half and the sides went in 0-0 at half time.

In the second half, City made four changes and soon sparked into life.

Mel Stirling put the Girls ahead, floating past two defenders before coolly slotting the ball beyond the keeper. Marni Russell then put her side 2-0 up with an excellent hit from the edge of the box.

Mel Stirling made it number three after brilliant wing play from Shawnie McGeechan set the City striker up for her second of the match.

Eilish McSorley made sure all three points went to City when she converted number four, firing her header across goal and into the back of the Strathclyde net, to make it 4-0 to City.

First team boss Peter Caulfield who was at the match commented, “We had an extremely disappointing first half, nothing like the level of performance we have come to expect from the Girls this season. However thankfully we turned it around in the second half and it was a good solid second 45 minutes.”
