City Girls overcome Paisley Saints

Glasgow City Girls defeated Paisley Saints 6-0 today at the new Toryglen Regional Football Centre.

City got off to the worst possible start losing Under 19 internationalist Lisa Evans on ten minutes with a knee injury.

The young City side managed to limit the effect of the early loss of Evans and strolled into a 4-0 half time lead, courtesy of a strike from Emma McMonagle and a hat-trick from midfielder Emma Mitchell.

In the second half, City suffered yet more injury concerns when Mitchell, also a Scotland Under 19 internationalist followed Evans into the treatment room with a similar looking knee injury.

Substitute Shawnie McGeechan came on for Mitchell and was not long in making her mark on the game, scoring City’s fifth.

Mel Stirling rounded off a fine performance by the young City side, to make it a comfortable 6-0 win for the Glasgow side.

Manager Richie Evans had mixed feelings about the game. He said, “Result and performance wise I am delighted but we are obviously all concerned about Lisa and Emma. They are two of our biggest influences in the side and having already lost Under 19 internationalist Lauren McMurchie to injury this season, we don’t want to lose another important player. Nonetheless, it was a good result today and I was especially pleased with our defensive display. We were solid throughout and I thought Alana Chatham deputising in goals for Lee Alexander today was particularly influential.”
