City Girls in first Cup Final
Glasgow City Girls will take part in their first ever Cup Final tomorrow when they contest the SWFL League Cup Final against Celtic B at Lesser Hampden, kick off 2pm.
Started last summer, the Girls team represent the Youth squad of Premier League Champions, Glasgow City and despite having a squad average age of only 16 years old, the Girls have shown they are more than capable of performing at the very highest level.
City face Celtic B, the Reserve side of Premier League team Celtic Ladies, but despite their opponents playing a League above City Girls in the SWFL First Division, City Girls Boss Richie Evans is confident his side can cause an upset.
He said, “Of course we are up against it. Celtic are clear favourites to win the Cup and why shouldn’t they? They have a number of experienced former Premier League players in their side, many of whom have played in senior Cup Finals before. But our Girls have got to this Final on merit, defeating two other First Division sides on their way, so I am sure Celtic will be slightly worried. We represent the unknown to them and we represent a number of Scotland’s finest talents for the future. Our aim first and foremost is to compete and do our best. If we end up lifting the trophy then I am sure it will be very well deserved.”
