Girls get off to a flyer

Glasgow City Girls started their senior women’s debut in impressive style today, beating Glasgow Ladies an emphatic 23-0.

The City youngsters got off to a flyer scoring after only a few minutes and continued in this vein throughout the whole match. At half time the score was 11-0 and despite the game clearly already being won, our girls continued to pass and play for the whole 90 minutes, a factor which pleased Coach Derek Murray.

He said, “For our first game, we could not have asked for a better result. Sometimes with these things, when the game is won, you can stop doing the things you train hard for and everyone becomes a little lazy. I am delighted to say that this did not happen at all today, highlighted by the fact we went on to score another 12 goals in the second half. We now have an extremely tough match against Inverness in the Cup, who finished third in the First Division last season. That will be a completely different game altogether compared to today, but we will let the girls enjoy their first result in the senior league and work hard during the week, in preparation for the trip to Inverness.”

Top of the goal scoring charts for City were Captain and full back Emma Mitchell who scored a very impressive 6 goals despite her defensive position. Attacking midfielder Lauren McMurchie also scored 6, with the rest of the goals as follows. Eilish McSorley (3), Lisa Evans (2), Danielle Bunyan (2), Sarah Major (1), Emma McMonagle (1), Laura Murray (1), Atlanta Gray (1).
