City Girls fire nine past Clyde
Glasgow City Girls continued their excellent start to the season with a convincing 9-0 win over Clyde.
City started at a very high tempo and proved too much to handle for the visiting side when virtually straight from kick off City scored their opener. A through pass from Emma Mitchell was well received by Lisa Evans and the City striker happily converted to give the home side the lead after only 18 seconds.
The second goal of the game came only 8 minutes later, this time from Ashley Morgan after a long accurate pass from the back from Stacey Buist set Morgan free. City’s third was from the penalty spot after midfielder Laura Murray was felled in the box. Murray picked herself and slotted away the resultant penalty.
Next up was Lauren McMurchie, who scored two goals in succession to make it 5-0 to City. Danielle Bunyan then hit a great strike with minutes to go in the first half, but the bar saved Clyde from going further behind.
Half time 5-0.
In the second period, City once again started well and scored another in 46 minutes with Lisa Evans getting her second of the game. Goal number seven for the home team came from substitute Emma McMonigle with Emma Mitchell hitting the eighth. The last goal of the game came from Lisa Evans who ensured she finished the match in style with her first hat-trick for Glasgow City.
The only blight to an excellent day was an injury to influential Captain Emma Mitchell. With all subs already used, Mitchell’s injury meant City were forced to play the last ten minutes with only 10 players, but the deficit in numbers did not show and the score remained an impressive 9-0 to City.
Manager Richie Evans was once again delighted with his team. He said, “Today was another fantastic performance from this young team. Clyde are a big strong powerful side and it worried me that our young players may be intimidated by this. However, once again they proved they are more than capable of managing the step-up to senior football and their superior passing and excellent all round play ensured another brilliant result.”
