City sides drawn at home in Scottish Cup
Glasgow City and Glasgow City Girls have both been drawn at home for the Unite Scottish Cup Second Round, due to take place when the season kicks off again next February.
The City first team will face First Division outfit Tynecastle, while City Girls will take on Stonehaven.
Stonehaven play in the Second Division North League and will represent an unknown test for the young City side. The Aberdeen based club are riding high in the Second Division North, sitting second top, due to an inferior goal difference to the league leaders Buchan. However, the City Girls SWF League Cup triumph will give them confidence that they can compete against the best sides in the SWFL and will be going all out to make it through to the next round.
Glasgow City Premier League team are aiming to win the Scottish Cup, having reached the final on four occasions, winning twice, so nothing short of a win will be acceptable for boss Peter Caulfield.
He said, “Tynecastle are a good side, but playing in a division lower than us, we are fully expected to win and I cannot disagree with that. We want to win this trophy, so going out in the Second Round is not an option. The game will be our first game back after the winter break and I am sure the girls will be raring to go again and will most definitely be looking forward to the match.”
